JAYWALKERS

Permalink 01:03:32 am, Categories: troytempest

IN THE GOOD OLD DAYS IM SURE THERE WERE LAWS REGARDING JAYWALKING.
THIS MEANT ANY IDIOT WANDERING AROUND ON THE ROAD AS OPPOSED TO USING THE FOOTPATH COULD BE CHARGED WITH SAID OFFENCE ! ! WHAT THE HELL HAS GONE WRONG ? ?
LET ME GIVE YOU AN EXAMPLE..........
GO INTO ANY BUILT UP AREA IN YOUR CAR,THE SORT OF PLACE WITH PAVEMENTS AND SHOPS AND YOU WILL FIND IGNORANT FOOLS WALKING OUT INTO THE ROAD.DIRECTLY INTO THE PATH OF ONCOMING CARS,OR GYMSLIP MUMS THRUSTING SOME HIDIOUS THREE WHEELED BUGGY-LIKE THING (WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO NICE PRAMS) OFF THE KERB CONTAINING SOME POOR "DESIGNER LABEL" FESTOONED OFFSPRING,WHILST CONDUCTING SOME NO-DOUBT "LIVE OR DEATH" MOBILE PHONE CONVERSATION,OR EQUALLY AS IMPORTANT,"SHUFFLING" HER I-POD TO THE NEXT "BANGING" "R+B TUNE,BY SOME GOD AWFUL WARBLING PRIMADONNA ! ! GOD FORBID YOU SOUND YOUR HORN ! ! IF YOU DO ,YOU ARE USUALLY SUBJECTED TO A TORRENT OF ABUSE, WHEN I LEARNED TO DRIVE IN THE EARLY 70'S I WAS TAUGHT TO USE MY HORN TO WARN SUBJECTS OF MY APPROACH,IS THAT NOT WHY CARS HAVE HORNS ? ?
EVEN WORSE IS IF YOU HAVE TO TRAVEL THROUGH A TOWN ON FRI/SAT NIGHT YOU ARE BOUND TO SEE HOARDS OF DRUNKEN YOBBOS STAGGERING OUT INTO THE STREET,USUALLY AFTER URINATING IN A SHOP DOORWAY,ON A PUBLIC BENCH,WAR MEMORIAL,PARKED CAR,ETC,ETC,(SORRY IVE USED A BIT OF LATIN THERE,AS I BELEIVE CERTAIN COUNCILS,HAVE OUTLAWED ITS USE,AS "THE PUBLIC"DO NOT UNDERSTAND IT ANYMORE)OK,IF THERE IS ANY ONE OUT THERE WHO DOES NOT COMPREHEND "ETC" IT MEANS.. "AND SO ON" OK? OH AND HOWS LIFE AT MCDONALDS/BURGERKING/SUBWAY ? ?...ETC ! ! ANNOYINGLY,POLICE PATROLS ARE USUALLY PRESENT WHEN SAID URINATING/JAYWALKING IS HAPPENING,AND SEEM TOTALLY UNCONCERNED.
30 MPH IS SLOW ENOUGH TO TRAVEL VERTUALLY ANYWHERE AND HAS BEEN AROUND AS A LIMIT SINCE ADAM HAD AN AUSTIN SEVEN,AND PEOPLE USED THE FOOTPATH AND CARS USED THE ROAD..SIMPLE,WE DONT NEED SIGNS STATING.."TWENTY'S PLENTY" IF THE BASIC RULES OF THE HIGHWAY ARE OBSERVED.ANY SLOWER AND MOTORISTS MAY AS WELL WALK,A-HA !COULD THIS BE PART OF A MASTERPLAN ? ?
ARREST AND CHARGE THEM I SAY ! !,THEN PERHAPS WE MIGHT HAVE JUST BEGUN TO TAKE ONE OF THE FIRST STUMBLING STEPS BACK TOWARDS NORMALITY AND COMMON SENSE,(BUT TAKE THEM ON THE PAVEMENT, NOT,THE ROAD) ! ! SO IN CONCLUSION,HERE'S THE DEAL..I WONT DRIVE ON THE PAVEMENT IF YOU DONT WALK ON THE ROAD..QUITE SIMPLE REALLY ISNT IT ? ?

I suppose that it was inevitable that i'd end up documenting my innermost grumpyness on some empty piece of cyberspace of which no-one else will give a toss.

Having just discovered this website, all I wanted to do was to look at whether fellow GOM had anything interesting to say - but I appear to have to jump through electronic hoops first! I'd better blogger off now before I get even grumpier and upset somebody.

Cyclists

Permalink 12:10:13 pm, Categories: hate_em_all_ernie

Call me old fashioned! The other day, during my morning constitutional to get my daily paper, I was 'zoomed' on the footpath by a couple of ‘young buggers’ on bikes.

Following my initial aftershock, I turned to thinking about the increasing number of speeding cyclists that are about these days.
I appreciate that this is an ecological, carbon footprint etc and healthy way to travel, but I am wondering about what rate of accidents there involving collisions with cyclists. With the advances in engineering and stuff, cycles are capable of speeds of 60mph+ (98km/h).This is under indoor track conditions, but that puts the average cyclist potential of 30-35 mph on the tarmac.

Since the innovation of cycle tracks, usually shared with footpaths, this moves the cyclist away from the danger of roads and their users, and pushes them into the way of pedestrians on footpaths. On which they terrorise the public barraging their way along shared footpaths.

Not a bad thing from the motorist point of view as many cyclists are menace to other road user, guilty of ‘nipping’ through in very close proximity either side of cars. Causing the occasional scratch, and dink on cars, but more so ‘a touch of the vapours’ as they cause a near collision or impact.
Yes a judge once ruled “…that a cyclist is entitled to his wobble”, but that only applies when they are being overtaken, not when they are under cutting traffic.

My particular hate is that cyclist which ‘zooms’ out from a left hand junction alongside the curb in the hope that traffic will give way. Yet it is the motorist who usually pays a penalty for the cyclist’s stupidity, fines etc and insurance in the event of a collision.

Some cyclist have a driving license, and thus a degree of knowledge of the Highway Code, that seems to go to pot when applying to them, but always know how it applies to other road users! Apart from that they are virtually unregulated, not even to wear a safety helmet, which, incidently, are only designed to withstand an impact of 12mph, or a drop onto a curb or road surface of 1 metre.

RoSPA is calling for more safety measures to prevent cycle related deaths (148 in 2005 and rising 10% a year); mainly from irresponsible car drivers whose reckless antics put many other road users in danger of their lives.

Many cyclists act do responsibly, yet there are those who arrogance prevails whatever they ride, drive or steer that make them an unsociable menace to others generally.
Regulation of cyclist may be the way forward that could result in a more responsible road/footpath user, along the lines of motorcyclists, and motorists.
After all new hybrid cars are so quiet at low speed there is now an initiative to fit recorded engine sounds to alert pedestrians when crossing the road, why not bicycles!

DS for kids only

Nintendo are a clever bunch. They aren't satisfied with corrupting kids minds with their inane games but now they are after the other end of the market. 'You are so stupid Grandad that you need to keep your mind awake with brain training and eye training and any other training that we can think of..'

What's next.

A japanese scientist has discovered that your hand coordination and bladder control suffers as you get older. (No shit sherlock)

'Pii Trainer' from Sintendo counteracts this with daily exercises. Using the stylus you must keep the flow of urine in the bowl. Any splashes will incur the displeasure of your good lady. By blowing into the microphone you can stem the flow and strengthen muscles you never knew existed.
